Temple Cowley Test Pit Weekend

29 June 2013 - 9:30am - 30 June 2013 - 4:30pm
Event type:

Saturday the 29th from 10 till 4pm

Sunday the 30th from 10 till 4pm

The weather has improved and it's time to dig again. We welcome both seasoned volunteers and complete beginners to join the Project for more mini-excavations in June. You will unearth finds and learn excavation techniques - the same techniques as are used in full-scale excavations - but there is also plenty to do  if you want to join in, but not to dig.

You can book a place for just one day or both and we can be flexible for those who can only manage half days- just let us know when booking a place. We will be looking for evidence of the manor of the crusading monks the Knights Templar (12th - early 14th century); there are also numerous Romano-British and prehistoric finds from just to the north. If you live in Temple Cowley and would like to dig a test-pit with the Project and contribute to this important research then please also let us know The streets of particular interest in Temple Cowley are: Temple Road, St Christopher's Place, Don Bosco Close, Junction Road and Crescent Road. Remember the test pits are only 1m square so can fit almost anywhere. Finally if you are one of our seasoned diggers and would like to supervise a test-pit please let me know:
